SITGES
It is one of the most attractive and elegant towns of the
Catalan coast, located 35 kilometres south of Barcelona and a
very popular destination.
Famous for its beautiful beaches, its cultural atmosphere, the
narrow streets that invite one to walk, enjoying a pause in any
of the beloved cafés, or to visit fashion and antiques shops.
Its nightlife and carnival are famous.
The church, located on a promontory overlooking the sea allows
us to enjoy an excellent view of the Mediterranean or to walk
through the surrounding narrow paved streets. Maricel, Cau
Ferrat and Romantic Museums deserve to be visited.
THE WINE REGION OF
PENEDES (Cava
cellars)
The region of Penedés, internationally known for wines and Cavas
is located 40 kilometres from Barcelona.
The Capital, Vilafranca del Penedés, hosts an important Wine
Museum.
The majority of cellars are open to the public.
One of the most interesting visit are to Cavas Freixenet and
Cavas Codorniu, a beautiful example of modernist architecture
designed by Puig i Cadafalch.
The guided tour introduces the visitor into a labyrinth of
tunnels where you will be able to appreciate the slow process
required to elaborate Catalan Cava.
We reccommend also a visit to Bodegas Torres, wine makers since
XVII century, to enjoy the wineyards and the visitors center.
CAVA AND MEDITERRANEAN
A visit to the region of Penedes, visiting a Cava cellar in the
morning and stopping for lunch in Sitges, allows to enjoy an
unforgettable day among vineyards, savouring the best of
Mediterranean cuisine in a typical seaside town.
MONTSERRAT
The Monastery of Montserrat, located 60 kilometres west of
Barcelona, on a spectacular mountain of strange rock formations,
is the heart of Catalan religious and spiritual fervour.
Founded in the XI century, the Romanesque figure of the Virgin of
Montserrat “La Moreneta”, Patron of Catalonia, is venerated by
pilgrims.
At 1 PM, inside the church, the Choir of children of the Escolanía
sing like angels. Attendance is recommended.
The view from the top of the mountain is spectacular.
COSTA BRAVA
(Girona, Figueres Dalí Museum)
60 kilometres north of Barcelona, the coast that extends from
Blanes, Lloret and Tossa de Mar to the border of France, is an
area of enormous beauty that combines steep cliffs with calas of transparent water (small
coves surrounded by cliffs),
beautiful inland landscapes and attractive beaches, small fishing
villages and famous tourist towns.
Figueres, and especially the Museum Salvador Dalí, deserves a
visit due to the incalculable artistic value of the works shown in
the museum.
GIRONA - BESALU
Girona,
located 30 kilometres inland is famous for its monumental
environment and the old Call (Jewish quarter).
Walking through the historical centre of Girona is an
unforgettable experience.
Enjoy a visit to the Cathedral or lose yourself among the narrow
streets of the Jewish heritage Call.
Another nearby town with great interest is the XII century
medieval Besalu.
Recommending a visit to the old town, the Jewish Quarter with the
recently discovered Mikva and the roman bridge over the River
Fluvia.
TARRAGONA
A visit to the city of Tarragona (1,5 hours south) is interesting
to return 2000 years back in history and appreciate the city
development that combines some excellent Roman ruins. We can
highlight the Forum, the Amphitheatre and the Roman circus with a
medieval area dominated by the Cathedral and its magnificent
cloister.
ANDORRA
The country of the
Pyrenees
Located in the
Pyrenees, between France and Spain and 200 Km from Barcelona. This
principality offers a magnificent combination of landscapes, sport
and shopping.
